A Kyle resident, Josh Devereaux Jarratt, 45, was meted out a severe sentence for his criminal acts against a child. On August 12, he received a 40-year prison term after entering a guilty plea for continuous sexual abuse of a child, as well as additional charges related to child indecency and possession of child pornography, reported CBS Austin.
The details revealed in the court were harrowing, with the Hays County Criminal District Attorney's Office declaring Jarratt's offenses. For several years, Jarratt abused a child within the seclusion of his home. The transgressions came to light in 2021 when, the victim confided in a friend which spurred an investigation by the Hays County Sheriff’s Office, according to a statement from the Hays County Free Press.
When law enforcement executed a search warrant at Jarratt's residence, they uncovered disturbing evidence. His home housed multiple computers and electronic devices found to be hoarding over 1,000 videos and images of child pornography. Furthermore, detectives unearthed explicit videos and photographs captured by Jarratt of a child and, a child-sized sex doll hidden in his bedroom closet.
Due to the grave nature of the continuous sexual abuse of a child charge, Jarratt is not eligible for parole and is required to serve his full 40-year sentence. Efforts of Assistant Criminal District Attorneys Miranda Ebersole and Daniel Sakaida and the dedicated work of Jennifer Baker and Detective Nelson Wray from the Sheriff’s Office were pivotal in bringing the case to closure, and their commendable work was noted in the release from the prosecutor's office.
