The Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) joined forces with the Los Angeles County Fire Department's Lifeguard Division yesterday to recover a body found at the base of a cliff in San Pedro. The incident, which occurred near Royal Palms Park on the 2300 block of W Paseo Del Mar, was reported at approximately 12:57 PM. According to an LAFD alert, emergency services responded by land, sea, and air.
Details regarding the deceased individual, including age, gender, attire, and the circumstances of their death, remain undisclosed at this time. The LAFD has provided no further information on the recovery operation. The recovery was described as "discreet and dignified" by the assisting agencies. The investigation has been handed over to the LAPD Harbor Division (Incident #2750) and the Medical Examiner.
Resources dispatched to the scene included multiple specialized units from LAFD such as Air Operations, Battalion Commanders, and Urban Search and Rescue teams. Responding fire stations included FS 101, E248, E285, E48, E85, and several tactical units like T48 and T85.
For media inquiries, the LAFD has deferred to the LAPD Harbor Division and the Medical Examiner's office. As the LAPD carries out their investigation, updates are expected to follow from the responsible agencies. Brian Humphrey from the LAFD stated the nature of the incident succinctly in the official alert without elaborating on the potential factors that led to the individual's tragic demise at the seaside cliff.
