On the afternoon of August 5, chaos unfolded in Lake Havasu City, two armed robberies were reported within minutes of each other. The Lake Havasu City Police Department informed the public that officers initially rushed to Palo Verde Boulevard South following the first incident. Soon thereafter, a second robbery was reported on Lake Havasu Avenue North, with the caller providing a description that matched that of the first suspect.
As police units converged on the scenes, one of the officers spotted a vehicle fitting the description and a pursuit ensued. In a bizarre turn, the suspect began hurling money from the window during the chase, which came to an end on Mescalero Drive. Tony Lee Crawford, a 40-year-old local, was arrested without further incident with the assistance of the Mohave County Sheriff's Office deputies.
Crawford is now facing an array of charges, including two counts of armed robbery and various assault and weapons misconduct charges. His bond was set at $100,000 cash only.
