The Los Angeles Police Department's West Traffic Division has put out a call for information concerning a non-contact hit-and-run that resulted in severe injuries, according to an LAPD news release. In the early hours of Saturday, July 20, 2024, a southbound Nissan Frontier, driven by Luis Sanches-Galicia, collided with parked vehicles after swerving to avoid a blue Chevrolet Camaro that had abruptly entered its lane on Normandie Avenue.
The incident unfolded just north of 1st Street at around 2:00 a.m., and the Camaro in question fled the scene without providing any aid or identification; the driver’s actions are now the subject of a citywide search by authorities. Although a video capturing the incident has been made publicly available, the specific details of the suspect vehicle remain broad, with it being described as a newer model blue Chevrolet Camaro or a similar vehicle. The injured passenger, a 31-year-old woman, was taken to the hospital by the Los Angeles Fire Department, her condition remains a stark reminder of the consequences that follow when a moment’s evasion leads to a lifetime of recovery.
Sanches-Galicia, the driver of the Nissan Frontier, has been arrested for Felony DUI under booking number 6850391, however, this does not absolve the driver of the Camaro, who committed an egregious act by opting for self-preservation over the obligation to stand witness to the human cost of their haste, similarly, drivers are reminded to stop and remain at the scene should they ever find themselves in a collision. The public plays a crucial role in such investigations and anyone with details pertaining to the hit-and-run is urged to come forward and communicate with the West Traffic Detectives at (213) 473-0234 or to share information anonymously through CrimeStoppers by calling 800-222-TIPS (800-222-8477) or texting to phone number 274637 with the prefix "LAPD."
