Concerns were raised in Lathrop this week as two high school students faced the harrowing experience of being robbed in close succession. The incidents, which occurred just moments apart in the Stanford Crossing area near Lathrop High School, have prompted police to issue warnings and remind students to remain vigilant. According to a KCRA report, the students were approached shortly after school was dismissed and found themselves divested of personal belongings, including clothing and jewelry. A nearby school resource officer was brought up to date by the victims, initiating a rapid police response.
The twin robberies seem to be a stark reminder that even places bustling with the energy of youthful congregation can be marred by perilous acts. Lathrop Police Department's Taylor Dominguez, speaking to the situation, suggested the importance of awareness in these public spaces. "It is important to stay vigilant and aware of your surroundings, kids specifically, you know, we all live on our phones nowadays. Making sure that we keep our heads up, that we're aware of what's going on around us," Dominguez told KCRA.
CBS News reports that the suspects, Hezekiah Dawson, 18, and Angelina Tachiquin, 20, are facing charges of robbery and conspiracy. The Stockton Police Department had also issued warrants for the pair due to other robbery allegations.
Following the receipt of information from the victims, local patrol units and detectives quickly worked to locate the suspects. Surveillance cameras were instrumental in the investigation. The suspects' vehicle was found at a nearby business, and a traffic stop led to their arrest.
