Larry Dewayne Colvin, Jr., a 51-year-old Lenoir, N.C., resident, has received a 14-year sentence for charges related to drug and gun offenses. The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney for the Western District of North Carolina, Dena J. King. Following his prison term, Colvin will be placed under supervised release for five years.
The investigation took a turn on December 12, 2022, when authorities were tipped off about Colvin's methamphetamine trafficking activities in and around the Lenoir area. Law enforcement conducted controlled purchases with a Confidential Informant, during which, they witnessed Colvin selling methamphetamine. On December 16, 2022, a search warrant at Colvin's residence culminated in the seizure of methamphetamine, a firearm, and additional evidence from a vehicle on the property, the Justice Department reported.
Another location, a camper Colvin used as a storehouse for drugs, yielded more methamphetamine and an assortment of firearms including five handguns, two rifles, and a shotgun. Colvin's workplace was also implicated when law enforcement officials discovered in excess of 4.5 kilograms of methamphetamine and $30,000 in cash. January 8, 2023, Colvin was involved in an incident where he communicated threats and was later found with a firearm and cash at a gas station.
Colvin's guilty plea on October 31, 2023, encompassed possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, distribution of methamphetamine, and possession of a firearm by a felon. The combined efforts of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI), local sheriff's offices, and the Lenoir Police Department brought the case to a close, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Steven R. Kaufman and Special Assistant U.S. Attorney William Wiseman prosecuting.
