The city has offered an open invitation to participate in shaping a new public sculpture that will adorn the entrance of the Tittle McFadden Public Safety Center. With the theme centering around Public Safety, Protection, and Trust, this community-driven project taps into the very heartbeat of civic engagement.
An interactive event, set against a soundtrack provided by a Sounds of Lewisville concert, became a live brainstorming session helmed by Blessing Hancock, the artist commissioned for the piece. Hancock, notable for her integration of communal voices into her work, is weaving the essence of Lewisville's spirit into the art. In a bid for inclusion, the city's announcement, detailed in the City of Lewisville, also extends to an online platform, where ideas and phrases can be submitted till 11:59 p.m. Monday, Aug. 12.
Initial artist renderings alongside the input form provide a glimpse into what the future holds. Hancock's work often plays with light and shadow, crafting sculptures that are as much about the spaces in between as they are about the steel and light they're forged from. This upcoming sculpture is not just a testament to Hancock’s creative vision but to the shared narrative of those who call Lewisville home.
