A 25-year-old Liberty Hill man, Caleb Comer, has been charged with murder in the fentanyl poisoning death of 18-year-old Matthew Wright, as reported by KXAN. The Cedar Park Police Department disclosed that their investigation led to evidence indicating Comer sold Wright fentanyl-laced pills that resulted in the teenager's death in May.
An autopsy confirmed Wright had fatal levels of fentanyl in his system at the time of his death. According to CBS Austin, police reports state that Wright purchased the deadly pills, often referred to as "percs," hours before he was found dead inside his Cedar Park home on May 2. Comer was previously out on bond for a 2023 Aggravated Robbery in Travis County, adding layers of concern to his criminal record.
"Fentanyl is stealing far too many lives, and we are dedicated to pursuing drug dealers who are dealing lethal poison in our communities," said Cedar Park Police Chief Mike Harmon in a statement obtained by KXAN. Comer remains in custody at the Williamson County Jail, with bail set at $150,000. This arrest appears to be part of a broader effort to tackle an ongoing public health crisis that continues to challenge communities nationwide.
The recent arrest by the U.S. Marshals Lone Star Fugitive Task Force was on July 31, a move that falls in line with rising enforcement operations targeting the opioid epidemic, particularly the surge in fentanyl-related incidents. "This arrest is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our officers and partners," Chief Harmon told KXAN. "We will continue to fight against this epidemic and bring those responsible to justice." This case underscores the lethal risks associated with illicit drug use and the potential legal consequences for those implicated in its distribution.
