Last night, the Long Beach Police Department was kept busy with a series of violent incidents involving firearms throughout the area. According to an LBPD Blotter update, officers responded to three separate shooting events and a notable firearm seizure during a traffic stop. The tension-clad rhythm of these occurrences underscores the city's challenge with gun violence.
Officers were summoned to the intersection of 10th Street and Chestnut Avenue at 7:08 p.m. on August 11, where they found a male victim suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound after a verbal dispute with a group escalated, resulting in a female suspect firing the weapon. Brought into a verbal confrontation, the victim near The Paseo and Aquarium Way, was shot by an unknown male assailant around 8:00 p.m. Both victims were taken to a local hospital in stable condition, and no other injuries were reported. The suspects in both shootings managed to elude officers before they could arrive on the scene, per the report.
Additionally, approximately an hour and a half after the second shooting, police were dispatched to 14th Street and Long Beach Boulevard due to reports of gunfire. There, they discovered evidence to confirm that shots had been fired, yet neither a victim nor a suspect was found at the site. With no injuries reported, the investigation into this incident carries on.
The LBPD also shared a success from the day's operations. Conducting a traffic stop near Cedar Avenue and Anaheim Street at 5:39 p.m., officers uncovered a firearm from an individual who was prohibited from possessing it. After being confronted by officers, the individual, whose identity remains undisclosed, was arrested at the scene. As with the earlier incidents, the investigation into this case is actively continuing.
