
Earlier this morning, an odor investigation prompted a response from the Los Angeles Fire Department to Los Angeles City College's Science Tech Lab, as reported by LAFD. At 08:52 AM, LAFD units arrived at 855 N Vermont Ave in East Hollywood to investigate an unidentified odor detected in a college classroom, following water being flushed into a sink or drain, initiating an investigation without any visible signs of smoke or vapor.

Though initially a potential hazard, "no escalating or off-site hazard has been identified" and in an abundance of caution the classroom was isolated the entire building was promptly evacuated, which allowed officials, including a deployment of hazardous materials specialists, to thoroughly assess the situation, as stated by LAFD. One individual, identified as an adult male Building Engineer and college staff member, who had been near the affected area before the fire department's arrival, underwent a medical evaluation by LAFD paramedics while remaining on-site and displayed no apparent symptoms.
The story developed quickly and, by 10:10 AM, the LAFD announced the conclusion of their investigation at the Science Tech Lab. It was determined that there was no specific hazard, and the fifteen building occupants who had been evacuated during the assessment phase were allowed to re-enter the building, with no additional illnesses or injuries reported.
