An intensive investigation is underway by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department following a night of violence that left a woman deceased and a man critically injured in what appears to be a case of domestic tragedy. According to KTLA, the incident began with an argument at a residence in Lancaster that escalated to gunfire, though not resulting in injuries at first.
Early Sunday, a suspect, identified only as a male Hispanic adult, confronted a woman, similarly, a female Hispanic adult, along with another man at the latter's home, reported the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. As the two individuals were believed to be an estranged couple and the confrontation, they departed in the woman's vehicle, as noted by The Los Angeles Times. A verbal altercation ensued and shortly led to the tragic outcome, unfolding at the intersection of East Avenue H and Challenger Way.
Subsequently, around 15 minutes after the initial confrontation, the couple stopped their vehicle and, after exiting, "the suspect again produced the firearm and shot the victim, killing her," as specified in the statement by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. The male suspect then fled the scene in the victim's vehicle, with the victim left at the scene and later was found deceased, according to information from a Nixle alert from the Sheriff's Department.
In an attempt to end his own life, the man, suffering from his injuries, presented himself at a family member's home of the female victim in Palmdale before being rushed to the hospital. Operational procedures on the side of deputies had him listed as under critical condition, like one found written in the details about the man's suicide attempt aftermath by the officials. As the Sheriff's Department divulged, the man's current health status remains precarious.
While information is still being pieced together, the Sheriff's Department is urging anyone with knowledge of the events to step forward. The Homicide Bureau has been actively seeking tips at (323) 890-5500, with the option of anonymous reporting through "Crime Stoppers" at (800) 222-TIPS (8477), an avenue suggested for those preferring discretion in their assistance to the investigative process.
