A vacant tire store at 6901 S Vermont Avenue was engulfed in flames early this morning, leading the Los Angeles Fire Department into a defensive battle against a greater alarm structure fire. According to an LAFD alert, the fire was reported at 03:28 A.M. and involved a one-story building measuring 75 by 100 feet, which had been the site of a previous fire.

Upon arrival, firefighters were confronted with flames bursting through the roof, engaged in combat with the fire which was standing at the site of a prior blaze. A subsequent LAFD update stated that the fire, which also involved outside tire storage, was contained and extinguished by approximately 80 firefighters within 90 minutes. The operations were concluded without injury, and LAFD Public Information Officer Firefighter David Ortiz was announced to be assisting the media.

The same location experienced a suspicious rubbish fire on August 2, 2024, which spread to outside storage but not to the structure itself and caused no injuries. The cause and origin of today's fire remain an active investigation, as per the reports from the firefighters who were quickly dispatched to the scene upon the initial alarm.

The LAFD has not yet determined what ignited the flame that tore into the morning sky from the desolate tire store. "The still smoldering fire, which also involved outside tire storage, was through the roof of the 75' x 100' one-story tire store on LAFD arrival," noted Firefighter David Ortiz in a statement obtained by the LAFD's alert system
