A fatal deputy-involved shooting in Paramount on Sunday night left a man dead after he allegedly became aggressive with a pair of large scissors. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department reported to the 8400 block of Quimby Street following a domestic dispute between the individual and his father.
According to KTLA, the father, after being punched in the face, notified the deputies arriving shortly after 9:00 P.M. that his 30-year-old son had assaulted him. Deputies located the son in the backyard, who advanced toward them immediately and aggressively, even after being struck by a stun gun, prompting at least one officer to shoot the man.
The man, whose identity has not been disclosed, was pronounced dead at the scene. The case has spurred multiple independent investigations, including reviews by the Sheriff's Homicide Bureau and Internal Affairs Bureau.
As detailed by a Nixle alert from the Sheriff's Information Bureau, no deputies were injured during the incident. These incidents trigger immediate investigations from various divisions including the Office of the Inspector General and the Critical Incident Review Panel to assess the circumstances and legality of the use of force.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office's Justice System Integrity Division will also conduct a legal analysis to ascertain whether any criminal charges should be pressed or if the shooting was legally justified.
