In a late-night incident that prompted an investigation by local authorities, a man lost his life in Irvine after being hit by a vehicle while seated in a roadway. According to the Irvine Police Department (IPD), at around 12:43 a.m., they responded to the scene at the intersection of Jamboree Road and Barranca Parkway where they discovered the man, still unidentified, who had succumbed to his injuries.
The pedestrian was sitting in the northbound lanes of Jamboree Road when he was struck by a 2017 Lexus sedan, the driver of the vehicle stopped immediately after the incident and cooperated with the investigation but it's unclear why the man was seated in the road at that late hour, the IPD report outlines. Witnesses or individuals with relevant information are encouraged to reach out to Detective Christopher Ostrowski at 949-724-7047.
The aftermath of the collision saw the involvement of Orange County Fire Authority personnel, who declared the pedestrian deceased at the scene, further investigations by IPD's Major Accident Investigation Team are underway, even as there's speculation that drugs or alcohol may have played a role in this tragic occurrence, however, it is not confirmed if those factors pertained to the pedestrian or the driver, or possibly both.
