The Marietta History Center is set to open its doors to families on August 17, 2024, for a day of Olympic-themed fun and learning. With a nod to the Summer Games in Paris, the upcoming "Pop-In" event promises a blend of activities and crafts tailored to spark an interest in sports history, and it's entirely free of charge, courtesy of local benefactors Cauthorn, Owen, and Sanders.
The monthly Pop-In events, celebrated every third Saturday, are fast becoming a staple for family days out. As part of its dedication to educational community engagements, this month's installment invites children and their families to dive into the spirit and legacy of the Olympic Games. A generous sponsorship allows attendees to enjoy the Pop-In encounters without worrying about the cost.
From 10 am to 4 pm, visitors can explore a variety of stations at the History Center located on 1 Depot Street. The Cobb Library's Georgia Room opens its doors, and the Cobb Bookmobile will be ready to welcome readers from 10 am until 2 pm. For those drawn to the softer side of nature, the Georgia House Rabbits Society will present touchable rabbits between noon and 2 pm. Additionally, local authors Rosalind and Maggie Bunn are set to showcase their work, "All Aboard Georgia."
Given the rich local culture fostered by such events, the history center aims to ignite curiosity about Marietta’s past by connecting people through "compelling stories and engaging experiences," according to the city’s official website. Bach 2 Rock is slated to perform at 1 p.m. at Atherton Square, adding musical flair to the schedule of events. Indeed, lively melodies are set to complement an already vibrant atmosphere.
The center's ongoing mission to fuse community and history is clear, as it often provides opportunities for residents to intertwine.
