Authorities are on the hunt for a burglary crew that hit Equvalence, a high-end shoe store in Encino, in the early hours of Wednesday, marking the third such incident the store has suffered this year, according to ABC7. The Los Angeles Police Department reported masked men fled the location at approximately 3:00 A.M., dropping cash as they escaped in two Chevrolet Camaros and a Corvette; the LAPD's pursuit was called off due to the suspects reaching high speeds and for safety reasons.
Amidst the pursuit, which led onto the 101 Freeway where one of the vehicles was briefly tracked by a helicopter, and as the theft unveiled a dispersion of money along with the remnants of shattered glass, the reported suspects managed to elude authorities careening at speeds topping 100 mph, per information shared by CBS Los Angeles. "It is our top priority at this time to bring together the full capacity of the City to prevent this string of crimes from continuing and to ensure residents are safe," said Los Angeles Councilmember Nithya Raman in a statement on the District 4 website, as reported by ABC7, highlighting the recent spate of residential and business burglaries that have unsettled the Encino community.
Captured by the watchful eyes of surveillance cameras, the suspects' operation appeared meticulous and rehearsed; these individuals wore masks, gloves, and hoodies, taking the time to strategically maneuver their getaway vehicles and ransack the store of designer footwear and collectible artworks, identified by FOX LA as high-value Bare Bricks among other items. The burglary team's latest foray adds to a disturbing trend of similarly methodic thefts, underscoring the concerning efficacy of their criminal precision.
As the Encino area grapples with the aftermath of these break-ins, Raman's office is slated to conduct a virtual information session focused on recent crime trends within the community, inviting residents to join a discussion encompassing prevention strategies and public safety measures; those interested are urged to RSVP through the link provided on the District 4 website, per ABC7's report. In the meantime, any individuals with information regarding Wednesday's break-in are strongly encouraged to reach out to the police as the investigation continues.
