A McKinney man received a sentence of 30 months in federal prison by a court in Del Rio for the crime of conspiracy to transport undocumented noncitizens across the border. The rule of law laid down its judgement on Draivon Rashon Dixon, aged 33, following a conviction by a jury earlier this year, details released by the U.S. Attorney's Office reveal.
Dixon's SUV rolled up to a U.S. Border Patrol checkpoint close to Carrizo Springs, Texas, where agents found three individuals trying to hide, their presence in the vehicle unaccounted for by existing immigration laws. Alongside this discovery, the agents also unearthed a 9mm pistol and ammo. As per details released by the U.S. Attorney's Office, the jury had found enough evidence to convict Dixon on Jan. 18, 2023.
U.S. Attorney Jaime Esparza of the Western District of Texas announced the sentencing and emphasized the gravity of such offenses. The U.S. Border Patrol handled the initial investigation, which then transitioned into the judicial phase where Assistant U.S. Attorneys Ekua Ayatra Assabill and Jayvee Rhoda led the prosecution. As for the proceedings related to asset forfeiture, Assistant U.S. Attorney Antonio Franco is still at the helm.
