As summer ends, Mecklenburg County is reminding families about back-to-school vaccinations. The county is hosting a Big Shots Back-to-School Immunization Clinic on Saturday, September 7, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Ella B. Scarborough Community Resource Center in Charlotte.
Michael Eby, the clinical services director at Mecklenburg County Public Health, emphasizes the verity that the upcoming clinic isn't just an administrative formality; it's a public health imperative. "We are gearing up for an all-day, all-hands-on-deck event," Eby stated in a statement obtained by Mecklenburg County News. The clinic is preparing to serve students with not only in-person services but also drive-through options via two mobile units, simplifying the process for busy families.
To alleviate long lines and waiting times, Public Health officials are recommending pre-registration, which can be done through their Immunization page or by calling 704-336-6500. This prep work is especially targeted toward students in the sixth through 12th grades, who have the additional convenience of a drive-through service if they pre-register. Details about the clinic and how to submit an Appointment Request Form are available on their website.
"With the increasing outbreaks of vaccine-preventable illnesses in children here and across the country, it is even more critical that we get all students up to date on their immunizations prior to returning to the classroom this year," said Dr. Raynard Washington, Mecklenburg County Public Health director. He appealed to parents' sense of community responsibility and the importance of not disrupting their child's education due to preventable illnesses.
The Big Shots Back-to-School Immunization Clinic is coming up on September 7 at the Ella B. Scarborough Community Resource Center in Charlotte. Mecklenburg County Public Health is urging everyone to take advantage of this opportunity to get vaccinations before school starts.
