The family of Keith Henion, a 50-year-old veteran who was shot and killed on the Loop 202 in Mesa, Arizona, is seeking the public's assistance in locating his murderer. Henion was found unresponsive with a fatal gunshot wound in his vehicle on January 28 earlier this year, as reported by ABC15. Months have passed since the crime, with detectives still on the hunt for the suspect.
With no new leads forthcoming, the Phoenix Police Department and Henion's family held a press conference on August 7. "This did not need to happen," expressed his mother, Peggy Aspinwall, in a plea for information that might lead to an arrest told FOX 10 Phoenix. She detailed how Henion served his country, pursued an education, and fathered two children who were nearing their own educational milestones.
Phoenix Police Sgt. and Silent Witness coordinator, Brian Bower, indicated the lack of crucial details about a suspect or suspect vehicle, emphasizing the need for community assistance. Henion's wife, Elizabeth, shared the heartrending contrast of celebrating their son's birthday just before the tragedy and then facing their daughter's birthday in the shadow of grief, according to FOX 10 Phoenix. The Silent Witness program is now offering a $7,000 reward for information that could help resolve this case.
The call for public support comes amid a backdrop of reported road rage incidents across the Valley. Just hours after the family's plea, another shooting was reported on I-10 near 91st Avenue, fortunately with no injuries. Such incidents have peppered the summer, adding to a climate in which the family's statement resonates a sad truth; nobody is exempt from the dangers lurking on the road home. Anyone with information is urged to contact Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS for English speakers and 480-TESTIGO for Spanish speakers, ensuring anonymity for those who come forward.
