Nursing homes across Minneapolis have a cause for relief as a recent announcement from the Senate DFL Minneapolis Delegation confirms an inflow of funds that will go a long way in addressing their financial woes. A sum of $6.2 million will be distributed among seventeen local nursing homes this August, marking the second round of assistance from a substantial $300 million statewide package passed in 2023 and signed into law by Governor Tim Walz.
The aid is part of an ongoing effort to ensure that these nursing facilities can maintain their operations, tackling issues like staffing challenges, repair needs, and general financial stability. As mentioned by the Senate DFL Minneapolis Delegation, "Nursing homes are crucial to the quality of life and well-being of seniors and families in our community. We are proud of the funding we passed in 2023 to ensure that nursing facilities can remain open, make needed repairs, and meet the needs of their patients."
These payments are a follow-up to an initial disbursement, each amount having been earmarked for specific homes with calculated figures based on their respective needs. The latest allocations see amounts ranging from $147,556 for Southside Care Center, to as high as $648,651 for Lakehouse Healthcare and Rehab Center. This will bring their respective total aids to $294,196 and $1,283,298, post the combined rounds of funding.
Andrew Residence, Benedictine Health Center of Mpls, and Bywood East Health Care are among the facilities benefitting from this financial gesture. For instance, Andrew Residence has been allocated $549,669 this time around, adding to last year's $538,250. Totals for individual homes now span from the aforementioned Southside Care Center's near $300,000 to Lakehouse Healthcare and Rehab Center's apparent windfall well above $1 million.
Members of the Minneapolis Delegation amid this announcement include President Bobby Joe Champion (DFL – 59), Senator Kari Dziedzic (DFL – 60), Senator Scott Dibble (DFL – 61), Senator Omar Fateh (DFL – 62), and Senator Zaynab Mohamed (DFL – 63).
