Division of Motor Vehicles is pushing forward with its initiative to cut down wait times and streamline services, announcing the addition of six new self-service kiosks at various Harris Teeter grocery stores throughout the state. These kiosks, coming as a relief for those tired of traditional DMV queues, will allow customers to tend to their vehicle and driving needs on their own time, even beyond the regular office hours.

DMV Commissioner Wayne Goodwin conveyed his enthusiasm about the move, stating, "I am excited to announce the expansion of our kiosk pilot to six more locations," in a bid to harness technology for improved customer service. The new kiosks can be found in multiple Charlotte and Raleigh areas, as well as in Cary and Fuquay-Varina. This expansion follows the three kiosks that had been previously set up in March, bringing the current total to nine, as reported by NCDOT.

Services available through these kiosks include license renewals, address changes, registration renewals, and even tax payment on new vehicles. Customers will receive temporary documents immediately, while the permanent versions are mailed out. A representative from Harris Teeter, Danna Robinson, expressed delight towards this partnership with the DMV, "We are thrilled to partner with the DMV to offer more kiosk locations in several Harris Teeter stores to add convenience to our customers' everyday lives," according to the same press release from NCDOT.

The endeavor to install these kiosks is facilitated by a partnership between the NCDMV and Intellectual Technology, Inc. (ITI), a move that poses no financial demands on the state. All kiosk-related costs have been channeled through a transaction fee of $4.95 plus a 2% processing fee for credit/debit cards, thereby shifting the expense onto the users who opt for this convenience. NCDMV's collaboration with ITI represents progress in integrating modern solutions into longstanding bureaucratic processes, and if successful, plans to introduce more kiosks will unfold, with a 10th one already scheduled for deployment at Fort Liberty later this year.
