In a harrowing event that shook a quiet Nevada County community, two men have been arrested in connection with a vehicle shooting incident. Reese Hadley Lanskey-Stevens, 18, and River Casey Harris, 20, were apprehended by Nevada County Sheriff's Office (NCSO) following an investigation into the gunfire that took place on the evening of August 27. According to an Nevada County Sheriff's Office Facebook post, the suspects were identified and caught in Grass Valley, leading to a felony traffic stop with multi-agency support.
The initial call reported that a vehicle with at least five individuals inside was being shot at by male suspects wielding firearms from a red four-door hatchback. The targeted individuals escaped unscathed, and the assailants remained at large until the following afternoon. A detective located the suspect vehicle, and the arrest was executed with the assistance from agencies including the California Highway Patrol and Placer County Sheriff’s Office.
Upon detention, Lanskey-Stevens was charged with criminal conspiracy, stalking, and committing a felony while on bail, while Harris was arrested for criminal conspiracy. The Nevada County Sheriff's Office detailed that both were taken into custody at 2:38 p.m. on August 28 and later booked at Wayne Brown Correctional Facility. Lanskey-Stevens's bail was set at $350,000, and Harris's bail at $200,000.
The four other individuals in the red hatchback at the time of the arrest were not suspects in the shooting and were released at the scene. An additional update clarified that an earlier related traffic stop and vehicle chase on August 27 involved a different car and is being considered a separate incident. The Nevada County Sheriff's Office has expressed gratitude for the cooperation of local and nearby law enforcement partners in helping to secure the arrests swiftly. The case remains under active investigation, and both defendants continue to be held in custody.
