Strahinja Jokic, brother to Denver Nuggets' MVP Nikola Jokic, appeared in a Denver County courtroom facing an assault charge stemming from a physical altercation during a Nuggets playoff game against the Los Angeles Lakers. According to Sports Illustrated, the judge imposed a protection order that requires Strahinja to stay away from the alleged victim in the case.
In addition to the protection order, the court ordered Strahinja Jokic to be fingerprinted and scheduled his plea entry for October. The charges are linked to an incident captured on video, in which Strahinja is seen punching an individual in the face at the aforementioned basketball game. The video, which went viral, showed "obvious cuts and bruising" near the victim's left eye, as reported by 9News. Moreover, the victim reported a concussion diagnosis following the event, changing his mind about pressing charges after initially fearing retaliation.
This incident is not Strahinja's first run-in with the law. According to Bleacher Report, the 2019 case detailed previous legal issues where he faced charges including assault and obstructing phone service. Eventually, Strahinja pleaded guilty to a felony trespassing and a misdemeanor for the later incident, while other charges were dropped following a plea agreement.
The court developments add to a troubled history for Strahinja, who is also known for his courtside presence at Nuggets games, celebrating alongside his brother and the team after their victories. Despite the gravity of the situation, the legal proceedings maintain a strict adherence to protocol and the examination of the facts as the case moves forward. The outcome of the October court appearance remains to be seen as this scenario unfolds in the Denver judicial system.
