The North Houston community is mourning the loss of 61-year-old Carrie Mitchell, struck and killed at a bus stop during a high-speed chase on August 7. Joseph Jebbia, a 43-year-old with a criminal history, has been arrested in connection with the incident.
Mitchell, identified by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences, was waiting at a METRO bus stop near North Freeway and West Road when the crash occurred, resulting in a chase initiated by Montgomery County deputies after Jebbia, driving a red Chevy Tahoe ran a red light and collided with another vehicle that hit Mitchell who has been remembered by her daughter Keandra Bogan as a mother full of life who loved music and was a health-conscious individual.
Jebbia is currently detained at the Harris County Jail, with bond amounts totaling $1.3 million, facing serious charges including murder, aggravated kidnapping, unlawful possession of a firearm and body armor; in a statement to FOX 26 Houston, Taylor Carter from the Vehicular Crimes Division of the Harris County District Attorney’s Office underscored the concern over Jebbia's violent past, deeming the escalated bond necessary.
Bogan expresses forgiveness towards the suspect, stating, "You just chose to do those things. I forgive you. Because I have God in my heart. I forgive you totally, but I won't forget," in an interview reported by FOX 26 Houston.
