As the Labor Day weekend beckons, so too does the surge of passengers at Orlando International Airport. According to an Orlando International Airport press release, nearly 900,000 travelers are expected from August 29 through September 3, marking a 1.4% increase from the previous year. Travelers have been warned to brace themselves for the busiest day, Labor Day itself, with an anticipated turnout of 164,231 passengers.
The airport, acutely aware of the upcoming passenger spikes, has recommended several strategies to assist travelers in navigating the unavoidable bustle. Early arrival, avoiding checked luggage, and using expedited security services like TSA Precheck or CLEAR have been cited as ways to reduce potential stress, according to the same press release. Kicking off the holiday weekend, Kevin J. Thibault, the CEO of the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority, embraced the potential of the Strategic Plan priority 'Connection,' hoping to advance the ease of travel during these peak times.
Meanwhile, a report from WESH has shared insights from actual travelers making their way through the throngs. John Jablonski, a visitor from New York, said, "I can't take all the credit. It's my wife. She tells me where to go," Jablonski said. "That's what I do so, packed early arrived early, did whatever they told us to do, packed the right things and tried to make everything as flawless as possible." Also highlighted in the report was the Bennett family, frequent visitors to Disney World, who wisely took flights that departed at daybreak to minimize delays.
Frequent flyers are no strangers to the challenges posed by heavy airport traffic, and insider knowledge often lends itself to smoother sailing through security and check-in routines. The airport also recommends downloading the MCO App, a digital tool for real-time security wait times and flight status. Portia Bennett, in her interview, as per WESH report, shared her travel philosophy, "Catch the first flight out, honestly, that I can give you," Bennett said. "We left at 5:30 a.m." Unfortunately, Bennett's mother, fell victim to the all-too-common misstep of missing her flight, leaving the family in the lurch as they awaited her later arrival.
With the anticipated influx at Orlando International Airport, it's clear that holiday travel remains a popular American ritual.
