An Orlando man has been indicted on charges of first-degree murder and stalking after a fatal incident outside an Ocoee gym in March. Shannon King, 56, is accused of the killing of 38-year-old Jessica Leigh Steigelman, according to WESH.
The attack took place in the early hours of March 1, with Ocoee police responding to the scene shortly before 7:30 a.m. at a Planet Fitness location. Witnesses told police that King was seen arguing with Steigelman in sign language before the stabbing occurred. After a struggle, Steigelman was fatally wounded, and police, upon arrival, found King being detained by bystanders. Despite the efforts of a nurse on the scene and officers who attempted CPR, Steigelman succumbed to her injuries shortly after being taken to Health Central Hospital, as reported by WFTV.
According to a witness, witnesses intervened during the attack, detaining King who, after the stabbing, showed no remorse for the attack and appeared to be proud of what he had done. Another visibly distraught witness indicated that her 12-year-old daughter also witnessed the distressing event.
After King was advised of his rights, he chose to invoke his right to remain silent, he was arrested and taken into custody. The recent indictment handed down by a grand jury formalizes the charges against King. His pre-trial hearing has been scheduled for November 19 at 9 a.m.
