Tramon Jamal Stewart, a 23-year-old man from Orlando, has been sentenced to over three years in federal prison after his involvement with a firearm as a convicted felon, taking the form of seven years and three months to be exact. The Justice Department reported that U.S. District Judge Paul G. Byron handed down the sentence and also mandated the forfeiture of a Glock 34 9mm pistol related to the crime.
The events leading to Stewart's latest sentence began on September 27, 2023, when the Gang Enforcement Unit of the Orange County Sheriff’s Office carried out a warrant for his arrest. Stewart, who carried a loaded firearm with an extended capacity to unleash 23 rounds, attempted an escape but ended up in custody following a short pursuit and an unsuccessful hurdle over a fence. As law enforcement approached he decided to flee and this led to a chase with a fence jump involved—which Stewart did not successfully land as intended - leading to his arrest, during which they discovered the stolen handgun.
The implicated handgun not only bore the weight of a stolen item but was further linked to a prior shooting incident in Orlando the same year, according to matching ballistic casings. It had been reported stolen from Suwannee County, adding another layer to Stewart's charges. The investigation was supported by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives in collaboration with the local sheriff's office and the prosecution was carried out by Assistant United States Attorney Adam J. Nate.
