The National Weather Service in Melbourne has issued its latest forecast regarding Orlando's weather today. According to the NWS Area Forecast Discussion, Orlando residents can expect scattered to numerous showers and scattered lightning storms forecast into this afternoon. The Service highlighted that isolated storms could produce occasional to frequent lightning strikes, gusty winds, and moderate to locally heavy rainfall this afternoon.

Orlando's heat continues to be a significant concern, with heat index values soaring as high as 102-107 degrees today. The National Weather Service cautioned of a Moderate to Major HeatRisk that will persist over East Central Florida. The weather conditions are a result of a combination of high humidity and warm temperatures, which can impact anyone who doesn't take proper precautions. Advisories suggest taking frequent breaks from the heat and staying hydrated, especially during extended outdoor activities.

As for aviation concerns, the NWS Melbourne urges caution, pointing out that convection associated with the sea breeze will affect coastal Terminal Aerodrome Forecasts (TAFs) by late morning and early afternoon and then spread across the interior. Storm steering flow is expected to be slow towards the west and otherwise erratic at times, with the activity gradually winding down through mid-evening.

The marine outlook also calls for vigilance, as boaters are likely to face occasional to frequent lightning strikes, wind gusts up to 30-40mph, and moderate to locally heavy rainfall as part of the scattered to numerous showers and lightning storms forecasted to persist into the evening. Despite these hazardous conditions, the NWS Melbourne states that seas will remain relatively calm, building up to only 1-3ft nearshore and up to 4ft offshore.

Looking ahead to the beginning of the week, Monday's forecast remains largely unchanged, with the greatest chance for afternoon showers and storms across the western interior of East Central Florida. On the maritime front, the upcoming week promises favorable boating conditions outside of storm activity, with an onshore flow maintaining east-southeast winds at 8-14kts and seas up to 4ft offshore. As the week progresses, a reduction in shower and storm coverage is anticipated, with a trough potentially increasing activity towards the weekend.
