An Oviedo man has entered a guilty plea for charges related to child sexual abuse material, according to a recent announcement by the U.S. Attorney's Office. Carl Vecchione, age 62, is now facing a significant prison sentence, ranging from a minimum of 5 years to a maximum of 40 years, with his sentencing scheduled for November 19.
Vecchione was caught in the spotlight of law enforcement on June 9, 2022, when Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) executed a search warrant at his home. Authorities had linked his residence's Internet Protocol (IP) address to the distribution of child sexual abuse material online. Found guilty, Vecchione had over 900 images and videos on his laptop, as detailed by the plea agreement.
Assistant United States Attorney Stephanie A. McNeff is leading the prosecution for this case. Project Safe Childhood, a DOJO initiative started in May 2006, played a central role in this investigation. The program aims to bring down those who exploit children sexually and provide aid to the victims.
