Residents of McKinnon Avenue who have been eagerly awaiting the road and ditch reinforcements post-Hurricane Ian can expect to see some action come late September or early October. According to a recent update by the City of Oviedo, a contractor has already been locked down for the job and is deep in the preparation phase, which means shop drawings, structure fabrication, and flow diversion plans are underway. But this also means local folks won't be seeing any heavy equipment around just yet — it's still very much paperwork and planning back at HQ.
The hush in the hurricane-hit area shouldn't be confused with inaction the contractor is to fully mobilize, roll out the heavy machinery, and get this project on the road. The city wants to ensure the project is executed and completed thoroughly to reinforce the road and ditch should we face another historic storm event.
The stretch along McKinnon Avenue has needed repair since the tropical turmoil unleashed by Hurricane Ian, with the upcoming work promising to shore up the vulnerabilities exposed by the catastrophic weather event. Residents have been clamoring for improvements, and it seems the municipality is listening, aiming to prevent a repeat of the past damage.
