The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of a suspect in a recent sexual assault case that has heightened concern in the community of Palm Desert. The suspect, identified as Linnell Letice Wilson, a 21-year-old resident, was taken into custody on Sunday, August 25th near the 73000 block of Country Club Drive, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Office. This development follows after deputies from the Thermal Sheriff's Station responded to reports of a suspicious person and sexual assault in the early hours of Wednesday, August 21st.
Wilson, who was released from prison approximately one month before the incidents after serving only 11 months of a 30-month sentence, is no stranger to the criminal justice system. With a history of felony convictions that include robbery, carjacking, and weapons charges, he was booked on multiple felony sexual assault charges and robbery. Public contribution to the case was deemed instrumental in the apprehension of Wilson, as the office expressed gratitude for the tips that led to his identification.
Investigations commenced after a report was made of a suspicious male following a woman to her apartment at the 78000 block of Avenue 42 in Bermuda Dunes. The early morning encounter saw the unidentified male flee after the reporting party screamed. Despite the initial lack of success in locating the suspect, deputies secured video surveillance footage providing an image of the man in question. Hours later, another report came in concerning a sexual assault that occurred close to Adams Street and Dune Lake Street. The description of the suspect in both incidents bore striking similarities, suggesting they were connected.
The Thermal Sheriff’s Station continues to urge anyone with further information to come forward as the investigation presses on. Individuals can reach out to Investigator Perez through a direct line at 760–863–8447 or the Riverside Sheriff’s Dispatch at 951–776–1099.
