Motorists traversing U.S. 422 in Lower Pottsgrove Township can expect roadwork and lane closures starting next week, as PennDOT continues its multi-million dollar highway improvement project. The reconstruction, earmarked at $83.6 million, targets a 2.1-mile stretch of the expressway including bridge replacements to modernize and safeguard the busy route, as announced by the department PennDOT.
Travel restrictions alert: from August 19 to August 23, PennDOT warns of daytime lane closures on westbound U.S. 422, from 4:00 AM to 2:00 PM, spanning Evergreen Road and Armand Hammer Boulevard. During these same dates, eastbound traffic will see lane closures between Keim Street and Evergreen Road, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. While work crews will be on-site, backups and significant delays are anticipated throughout the work areas. Motorists should plan on adding extra travel time and exercise patience, as all construction activities hinge on favorable weather conditions.
The road upgrades under the Section M1B project are comprehensive, involving not just resurfacing but also the enhancement of curve radii, shoulder expansions, and lifting vertical clearances, all conceived to elevate travel ease and safety measures. Further details on the initiative describe the replacement of a culvert at Sprogels Run and the removal of an existing bridge over Porter Road, in its place, a new two-span bridge is set to be constructed—a critical juncture for reducing congestion and improving traffic flow.
In addition to the surface roadwork, the bridge carrying U.S. 422 over both Sanatoga Road and Sanatoga Creek is slated for a radical makeover. PennDOT plans to both reconstruct and widen these structures, as part of the larger effort to update infrastructure and accommodate the ever-growing demands of modern vehicular travel. Upon completion, these enhancements promise a smoother and more reliable passage for the multitude that rely on this key Pennsylvania artery, details shared by PennDOT.
