The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has made an announcement that is sure to impact the daily routes of many drivers. Scheduled maintenance on Route 113, also known as Trappe Road or Third Avenue, in Montgomery County, and on Tanguy Road slash Creek Road in Delaware County is expected to cause travel disruptions in the coming days. The work is necessary, PennDOT argues, to maintain the health and safety of our roadways but that small comfort will be of little consolation to those caught in the inevitable snarl of detoured traffic.
According to PennDOT's efforts to keep the public informed, motorists should expect Route 113 to be closed between Black Rock Road and Main Street from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, on several dates including September 3, 4, 12, and 13. The closures will accommodate pipe replacement work. A prescribed detour will reroute traffic via Black Rock Road, Route 29, and Main Street. Given the stretch of closure, delays are inevitable, indeed PennDOT advisories suggest planning for additional travel time.
Furthermore, for those who frequent Tanguy Road/Creek Road in Delaware County, similar inconveniences are in store. The road will be shut down on weekdays, starting from September 3 through to September 9, between 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM. The base repair work that’s being undertaken demands substantial daylight hours, driving the need for an alternative route that includes Dilworthtown Road, Glen Mills Road, and several others to bypass the construction.
While the challenge of navigating around these closures is recognized by PennDOT, locals will still retain access to their homes and businesses – a small reprieve for those whose daily lives will be otherwise disrupted by the din of machinery and the rerouted bustle of detoured traffic. To help motorists prepare for their commutes, PennDOT has made available a website, www.511PA.com. This resource offers up-to-the-minute information on traffic delays, weather forecasts, and traffic camera feeds. For additional traffic updates, drivers can also utilize the site’s smartphone application available for iPhone and Android devices, or monitor regional X alerts.
The scheduled maintenance is, as always, subject to the caprices of weather. Both residents and commuters alike are therefore urged to keep abreast of conditions and plan flexibly. Full details on these and other traffic interruptions can be found on the District 6 Traffic Bulletin, a compendium of transportation trials and tribulations for those navigating the state-owned highways in Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia counties.
