On Thursday evening, a DUI-related collision occurred at a Petaluma intersection, leading to the arrest of 22-year-old Daniel Islas-Ortiz. According to the report provided by the Petaluma Police Department, multiple 911 calls were received around 9:52 PM, reporting a vehicle that had flipped onto its side near West Street and Eden Lane, with the driver trapped within.
Upon arrival, Petaluma’s DUI enforcement officer, together with patrol officers, discovered Islas-Ortiz, the sole occupant, still confined to the wreckage. The firefighters from the Petaluma Fire Department were then able to extract the Petaluma resident from his turned vehicle. Despite the potentially dire scenario, Islas-Ortiz was medically checked at the scene by PFD Paramedics and cleared with no immediate need for hospitalization, the police said.
During the ensuing investigation, officers observed “objective signs of alcohol intoxication” on the part of Islas-Ortiz. Subsequent DUI testing revealed that his blood alcohol level was over twice the legal limit. Ortiz was placed under arrest for DUI and transported to Sonoma County Jail for booking, as noted by authorities, police confirmed.
