The Petaluma Police Department is alerting the public to a series of thefts in the Cerro Sonoma and South Gate neighborhoods, with over 10 vehicle burglaries reported and the particularly distressful theft of Snowy, a beloved family pet bunny. According to the official announcement, these criminal activities occurred early Monday morning, where perpetrators targeted both secured and unsecured vehicles, with the latter suffering broken windows to gain access.
This case is distinguished from a standard string of burglaries because Snowy the Bunny was forcibly taken from its enclosure. Family members have since distributed a link to surveillance footage capturing the theft, hoping that community members can help identify the two suspects. The police department has invited the public to watch the video and share any pertinent information provided via the link in the official release.
Stolen items from the various vehicles included money, wallets, personal identification, high-end electronics like Beats headphones, a compound bow, and two BB guns, showcasing a wide array of valuables targeted by the thieves. Not content with portable items, in one incident, the thieves leveraged a garage door opener found in one of the vehicles to intrude upon a garage, ransacking cabinets within in a clear escalation of the night's nefarious activities. The police urge all victims to come forward with any useful information that may assist in capturing those responsible for these egregious acts.
Anyone who recognizes the individuals in the provided surveillance footage or has any knowledge about these incidents is encouraged to contact the Petaluma Police Department at (707) 778-4372.
