A Philadelphia man, Damir Richardson, 26, has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the murder of 17-year-old Carissa Bright, according to information from FOX29. Bright, who was killed in a January 2022 shooting, was sitting in the backseat of a car when Richardson drove up alongside the vehicle and fired, striking her in the head and chest.
Investigators assert that it was Bright's boyfriend, also present in the car at the time of the incident, who Richardson intended to harm, and after the shooting, Richardson reportedly engaged in a second gunfire incident, targeting his ex-girlfriend's house in Gloucester Township, as detailed by NBC Philadelphia. Richardson subsequently fled to California, where he was tracked down and extradited to Philadelphia to face his charges, during which no one was harmed in the subsequent shooting.
The conviction was solidified with evidence gathered through various methods including DNA found on the steering wheel of the Honda Odyssey that Richardson was driving, cell site location analysis, and the matching of fired cartridge casings (FCC) from both shooting scenes, as reported by CBS News Philadelphia. The firearm casings recovered from the Gloucester shooting scene along with those found in Germantown where Bright was killed were matched conclusively.
"This case is an excellent example of law enforcement collaboration that resulted in taking an extremely dangerous individual off the street," District Attorney Larry Krasner said, as stated by CBS News Philadelphia.
