Planned street resurfacing set to disrupt the routine flow of Philadelphia’s traffic has been announced, as Streets Commissioner Kristin Del Rossi informed citizens that travel across various city streets will be influenced by closures and parking limitations starting August 12th. The ongoing construction work is expected to wrap up by the end of the month, with a clear-cut execution of street milling, adjustment of manhole covers, resetting utility boxes, and final paving, according to the City of Philadelphia.

Del Rossi conveyed that the city has engaged the efforts of a contractor within the framework of the 1st Highway Bid#3962_G2023-00621, with activity chiefly concentrated within daylight hours, from 7 AM to 4 PM, hence bringing forth a challenge to day-trippers and residents alike who navigate these corridors for their quotidian affairs. The street milling operations which involve stripping away the old surface of the roads will span an estimated five-day stretch for each corridor; thereafter, attention will shift toward the manhole covers and utility boxes, tasks expected to take two to three days per site, and following this sequence the final act of paving, weather permitting, will stretch three to five days per corridor.

Inevitable parking restrictions will emerge as a consequence, with "No Parking" signs to precede each phase of work, Del Rossi noted, advising residents to relocate their vehicles to avoid towing incidents that would necessitate checking with the local Police District to retrieve their cars. Motorists are recommended to account for additional transit time when approaching the zones undergoing renovation. The work’s contractor, Tony DePaul, will be managing the milling and manhole resets while paving duties will be fulfilled by city resources.
