A hit-and-run incident has left a Phoenix homeowner grappling with significant property damage, as the quest for the driver responsible continues. Sylvia Fuentes, whose house and vehicles were damaged late on a Saturday night, near 16th Street and Broadway Road, was unaware of the extent of the wreckage until it was discovered hours later.
According to ABC15, the collision was captured on Fuentes's home security camera. She recounted hearing a loud boom but, dismissed it while half asleep, and did not realize the havoc unfolded in her front yard until later. "I came back out and I said, oh, wait, something’s wrong here," Fuentes narrated the sequence of her realizing the incident.
As the morning broke, the severity of what happened became apparent: a breached fence, and two cars were hit—one of them forced into the home's structure, causing damage to the walls and roof. The security footage froze upon impact due to the power cutoff, a detail reported by Arizona's Family. The incident also left Fuentes, who is already dealing with serious health issues and financial pressures, in a distressing situation.
"I’m pretty strong. I’m a damn strong person," Fuentes told Arizona's Family, "But you know what they say, even rocks crack. This, cracked me." In dealing with her ongoing cancer battle, and working two jobs to make ends meet, the sudden damage comes as another heavy burden. Despite these challenges, Fuentes's primary call to the culprit is simply for accountability. "Please come back. Take responsibility for what you did," she implored.
The aftermath has prompted the launch of a GoFundMe campaign to aid Fuentes in her time of need. Phoenix police, having responded to the scene yesterday, have forwarded the case to detectives for further investigation.
