After a prolonged disruption that impacted commuters throughout Pittsburgh, Route 51 has once again opened its lanes to traffic. Since August 1, the stretch between Crane Avenue and Woodruff Street has been closed off to facilitate the removal of a bridge and to allow for necessary repair works, as reported by CBS Pittsburgh.

The roadway, which was sealed off earlier last month to enable construction crews to dismantle a bridge at the Woodruff Street end, caused significant detours and delays for motorists. While the reopening was initially expected earlier this week, complications in removing a bridge connected to a parking lot prolonged the closure.

Despite the reopening, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has advised that there will be further disruptions with scheduled lane restrictions. These are to be anticipated on weeknights starting September 3 through September 27, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., according to WPXI.
