A Pittsburgh man, with a prior conviction for driving under the influence, found himself in deeper legal troubles as law enforcement officials caught up with him in Hazelwood yesterday, ending his 30-day evasion of sentencing. Ramone Thomas, a 37-year-old from Pittsburgh, was sought for his failure to appear at a July 18 sentencing after admitting to driving under the influence of a controlled substance, with Sheriff Kevin M. Kraus confirming Thomas’s capture to the public, as reported by Allegheny County Sheriff's Office.
According to a press release, the accused had three additional warrants issued by McKeesport Police, two of them for aggravated assault, including an incident outside Midtown Plaza Apartments resulting in the victim sustaining a serious brain injury, the third warrant cited terroristic threats towards his children's mother.
When detectives, acting on a tip, surrounded a Hazelwood residence believed to be harboring Thomas, he tried a less than dignified escape by clambering out a window and taking refuge on the roof clad merely in a bath towel, though his rooftop sojourn was short-lived as he was ordered back in and arrested without further incident before being escorted to Allegheny County Jail.
