
Plano man, Darnell Branch, didn't just spend a typical Sunday at a Chase Oaks Boulevard pool on June 9. Instead, he found himself in the throes of a crisis that would earn him the Plano Citizen Hero Award for his life-saving actions. In an event that quickly escalated into a violent altercation, Branch's decision to intervene made all the difference for a gunshot victim. According to the Plano Texas Police Department, After instructing his wife to dial 9-1-1, Branch stepped in to provide immediate first aid, exerting pressure on the wound and offering both physical and emotional support to the victim.
The local authorities were quick to respond to the incident, with Plano Police securing the scene and taking custody of the suspect. As the officers took over from Branch's initial emergency care, it was clear that his actions were far from perfunctory, his quick thinking and courage likely saved the woman's life. The medical team from Plano Fire-Rescue swiftly transported the victim to the hospital, where medical professionals, including Dr. Mark Gamber of Medical City Plano, confirmed the essential role of Branch's aid.
In recognition of his heroism, Plano Police Chief Ed Drain presented Branch with the Citizen Hero Award, asserting, as per the Plano Texas Police Department, "Darnell Branch's courage and humanity embody the true spirit of a hero".
