Tragedy struck Philadelphia's Feltonville neighborhood early Thursday morning when a 24-year-old woman was killed in a hit-and-run crash, details on the incident currently emerging as police seek the driver responsible for the heartrending event. According to FOX29, the fatal encounter occurred around 4:30 a.m. near the intersection of Front Street and Hunting Park Avenue, where the victim succumbed to her injuries.
In a scenario painted with scarce details but marked by its sudden violence police are on the hunt for a gray vehicle, which fled the scene after striking the woman, leaving behind little evidence of its passage save for the devastation experienced by those who knew the victim and the community that now mourns her. Per a report obtained by CBS News Philadelphia, the unidentified woman was in a vehicle with two others before the crash, "for some reason, the vehicle that the victim was in, the vehicle pulled over, and the 24-year-old female got out of the vehicle. And that's when a pickup truck, just described as a gray pickup truck traveling south on Front Street, struck this female," recounted Chief Inspector Scott Small.
Authorities responded to the distressing scene shortly after the incident as telemetry from the Philadelphia police indicated the call came in around 3:30 a.m. Philadelphia Fire Department paramedics alongside police officers found the woman with chest injuries, performing CPR at the scene before she was emergently transported to Temple University Hospital, where, despite their efforts, she was pronounced deceased at 4:23 a.m. The 6abc account asserts that the two individuals in the stopped vehicle witnessed the hit-and-run with the driver fleeing southbound on N. Front Street subsequent to the collision.
Flanked by a U.S. Post Office and Greenmount Cemetery, the site of the fatal incident might appear unassuming, yet its thoroughfare is one traversed by many and overlooked by various businesses equipped with surveillance, which authorities are now scrutinizing in hopes of catching a glimpse of the gray pickup truck involved in the tragic happenstance. "The area where the crash occurred is between a U.S. Post Office and the Greenmount Cemetery, but businesses up or down the block may have surveillance cameras that showed the truck," Small said in hopes that these cameras may provide the lead necessary to apprehend the individual responsible for taking a life and abandoning the scene.
