In a move reflecting the continued challenges plaguing the craft beer industry in Portland, Mt. Tabor Brewing announced the shutdown of its operations, which includes a brewhouse in Southeast Portland and a pub in Vancouver. The brewery, which has been part of the Portland beer scene for over a decade, cited lease issues with its Vancouver location as a contributing factor. According to an interview by The Oregonian/OregonLive, founder Eric Surface confirmed that the difficulties with the Vancouver pub's lease played a significant role in the decision to cease operations.

Mt. Tabor Brewing expressed gratitude to its patrons in a social media post, emphasizing the importance of customer support over the years. "Your enthusiasm, feedback, and companionship have been the heart of our success, and we’re profoundly grateful for the support you’ve shown us over the years," the brewery stated in a notice shared by KOIN.com. This closure comes amid a backdrop of several other prominent Portland breweries, including Von Ebert Brewing, closing their doors earlier this year.

Recognition for Mt. Tabor Brewing's contribution to the local beer landscape was recently highlighted by a bronze award for their Checkered Flannel Brown Ale at the Oregon Beer Awards. Despite this accolade, the brewery joins a growing list of over 30 breweries and cideries that have shuttered in the greater Portland area in 2023, as reported by KGW.com. The closures have struck at the heart of a city once synonymous with a thriving beer culture. In an acknowledgment of its community support, Mt. Tabor Brewing added, "As we close this chapter, we’re reflecting on the countless good times we’ve had. Thank you once again for being a part of our story."
