Oceanside Harbor was the scene of terrifying random attacks last Saturday night, where individuals with covered faces brutally assaulted passersby, causing severe harm. According to a news release from the City of Oceanside, the violence unfolded just before 9 PM, leading to an urgent response from local authorities still piecing together the events.
The Oceanside Police Department hastened to 1400 N. Harbor Drive after receiving reports of the confrontation, which involved multiple suspects wielding baseball bats. Per the accounts of witnesses, two victims were found with head trauma as the assailants managed to evade capture by fleeing in a vehicle before police arrived on the scene, and a witness who was filming the incident became a target when the suspects tried to grab her phone.
Hospital emergency rooms at the Tri-City Medical Center were already treating two other individuals for injuries eerily similar to those found at the harbor—head lacerations and one facial fracture. However, the two groups of victims didn’t appear to be connected, and authorities believe the same bandana-clad perpetrators were responsible for both assaults.
As the investigation proceeds, the Oceanside Police have signaled that they've located the suspect’s vehicle and are following leads on suspect information, while the city's Crimes of Violence Unit is in full swing appealing to the public for assistance "regarding this incident," the Oceanside Police implores anyone with information to reach out to Detective Sergeant Dave Estrada at (760) 435-4698 or via email at [email protected].
