The Stayman Fire, which ignited on Tuesday afternoon near the City of Chelan in Chelan County, has prompted state fire assistance. The blaze, rapidly expanding to an estimated 1,000 acres, poses an immediate threat to homes, critical infrastructure, and agricultural lands. As local firefighters battle to establish control, Washington State Patrol Chief John Batiste sanctioned state firefight resources on Tuesday at 5:00 p.m., responding to a call for aid from Chief Brandon Asher of Chelan County Fire District 7.
Currently, the cause of the fire is still subject to ongoing investigations. Meanwhile, communities in close vicinity have been put on Level 3 evacuation orders, signaling the immediate danger to residents and their properties. As per a report by Washington State Patrol, the Stayman Fire is primarily fueling through brush and grass, challenging the containment efforts as it spreads swiftly.
The State Emergency Operations Center at Camp Murray has ramped up to Level 2, partial activation, to better coordinate the mobilization of supplemental state assistance for the wildfire crisis. Experts from the Fire Protection Bureau haven't hesitated to call in reinforcements, with five strike teams ordered to support the frontline firefighting forces. In addition to on-ground efforts, personnel from the State Fire Marshal's Office are executing their coordination efforts remotely to streamline the allocation and dispatch of necessary resources.
