Charlotte's local recyclers will need to adjust their routines as the William R. Davie Self Service Recycling Center at 4635 Pineville-Matthews Road shuts down for a major makeover starting September 10, according to the announcement for the Mecklenburg County. The temporary closure is paving the way for construction and expansion efforts set to enhance the center's capabilities which includes staffing the previously unattended site, accepting a broader array of recyclable materials, and installing new containers, aiming to reopen by the end of this year.
Residents won't be left in the lurch however, as county officials are directing them to continue their recycling efforts at alternative self-service centers, these include the Innovation Barn at 932 Seigle Ave., McAlpine Creek Park at 8711 Monroe Road, Park Road Park at 6220 Park Road, and Reedy Creek Park at 2900 Rocky River Road, all in Charlotte; the aforementioned venues are ready to take in typical curbside recyclables like aluminum, paper, and glass.
The drive behind this upgrade comes from a collaboration between Mecklenburg County's Solid Waste and Recycling division and the Park and Recreation Department, a joint operation indicative of the county's commitment to improving its waste management infrastructure and public service offerings.
While the expansion takes place, those who frequent William R. Davie's facility have to remember the four full-service recycling centers are also open and ready to accept the usual plus more recycling items, ensuring that the disruption caused by the site's upgrade doesn't curb the community’s green habits.
