A Rochester resident is facing federal indictment for allegedly possessing a firearm illegally and engaging in fentanyl trafficking, U.S. Attorney Andrew M. Luger's office disclosed. As detailed by the U.S. Attorney's Office, District of Minnesota, 29-year-old Liban Abdikadar Abdullahi was found with a 9mm Glock model 43 semiautomatic pistol on April 28, 2024, which he was prohibited from possessing due to prior felony convictions.
Abdullahi is not only accused of having the firearm but also of intending to distribute fentanyl, a powerful opioid linked to a surge in overdose deaths nationwide, and using the Glock to facilitate his drug trafficking enterprise. The indictment, as stated by the U.S. Attorney's Office, slates Abdullahi with three charges: possession of a firearm by a felon, possession with intent to distribute fentanyl, and carrying a firearm during and concerning a drug trafficking crime. These allegations have brought him before Magistrate Judge John F. Docherty in U.S. District Court.
The collaborative investigative efforts of the Rochester Police Department, the FBI, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives have culminated in this indictment. Assistant U.S. Attorney Evan B. Gilead is in charge of the prosecution for what has unfolded into a serious federal case.
