Following the previous announcement by Senator Liz Boldon (DFL – Rochester), six nursing homes in Rochester are set to receive a significant financial boost this August. The fund allocation, amounting to $1.67 million, is part of a concentrated effort to address the myriad of challenges nursing homes face in the district, including financial straits, staffing issues, and infrastructure needs, as reported by the Minnesota Senate DFL. This second round of payments is part of a larger $300 million statewide care initiative that the DFL majority pushed through in 2023, now coming to fruition under the pen of Governor Walz. The funds promise to not only stabilize but also to somewhat improve the conditions for both residents and care providers alike.
According to the Senate DFL MN, Senator Boldon shared her dedication towards ensuring the elderly within her district receive the care they deserve. “As Minnesotans, we want the best for our parents, grandparents and neighbors that are living out their golden years,” Senator Boldon said. “That’s why this funding is so crucial for the stability of these homes.” The funding looks to broadly keep the facilities operational, adequately staffed, and more capable of maintaining a standard of care that Boldon believes to be non-negotiable.
The six nursing homes to benefit from these latest disbursements include Maple Manor Nursing and Rehab, Rochester East Health Services, Rochester Rehabilitation and Living Center, Madonna Towers of Rochester, Rochester West Health Services, and Samaritan Bethany Home. Their total aid ranges from $420,378 received by Rochester West Health Services to a generous $746,008 distributed to Samaritan Bethany Home. Together, the payments amount to a considerable $3.3 million over the last two fiscal years, bringing tangible hope to these critical facilities.
Senator Boldon's emphasis on the quality of care reflects a broader commitment that resonates across the aisle, for it is one thing to merely keep a door open and quite another to ensure that said opening leads to a place worth entering. “Ensuring quality, accessible, and affordable healthcare has always been, and will continue to be a top priority of mine at the Legislature,” she stated, as per the Minnesota Senate DFL.
