In response to the recent weather tantrums from Tropical Storm Debby, Rock Hill officials have put the kibosh on strolls and paddle sessions along its scenic waterways. The City of Rock Hill has announced closures affecting the Piedmont Medical Center Trail at Riverwalk, Catawba River Trailhead, and River Park. The locales are off-limits because of flooding and swiftwater incidents that are nothing to trifle with.
The city isn't playing chicken with Mother Nature here, folks. With water levels on the rise, they've clamped down hard on access, which means no kayak or canoe adventures either, the launches at Riverwalk and River Park are also out of commission. The closures will stand, "until further notice," according to the city's statement. It's all about safety, after all, so while your weekend plans may be soaked, at least you won't be, literally.
While the official line is that the parks will reopen when the situation is deemed safe, there's no telling when Debby might ease off her watery siege. As it stands, the city personnel are keeping their eyes peeled on the waterlogged terrain, ready to give the all-clear when things mellow out. Until then, staying high and dry is the order of the day.
