A murder case with ties to rock 'n' roll royalty is unfolding in Placer County as Brent Clifford, the 55-year-old son of Creedence Clearwater Revival drummer Doug Clifford, faces charges for the murder of his girlfriend, 48-year-old Patricia Portella-Wright.
Authorities are to directly link pieces of the puzzle with an autopsy scheduled for today, which they hope will confirm the identity of the woman whose body was found down an embankment along the Mt. Rose Highway yesterday, as reported by KCRA. Portella-Wright went missing on August 4 and sparked a search that culminated grimly one week later. Clifford, who was promptly arrested in Portola, Plumas County, is now at the center of a harrowing narrative.
In a press conference, Placer County Sheriff's Office spokesman Lt. Dave Smith announced efforts to gather more information about the incident from various sources. "Right now, detectives are working to interview anybody that might have information on what occurred; friends, family members, acquaintances," Smith stated, a comment provided by ABC10. The investigation now stretches across state lines to Reno, Nevada, where Clifford is considered a "person of interest" in yet another homicide case involving a 68-year-old man.
Aside from the current murder charge, Clifford is enveloped in the shadows of another case—this time involving a man identified as William Andrews, who was found shot to death in Reno. Officials believe Clifford might have driven Andrews' red 2003 Chevrolet Blazer following the man's death, with the vehicle last seen heading westbound on Highway 70. "There is apparent foul play involved," Lt. Smith indicated, stressing the gravity of the events as they continue to investigate both cases that unfolded nearly 26 miles apart, as stated by ABC10.
Brent Clifford is set to appear in a courtroom at 1 p.m. today, facing the weight of the allegations and a community rattled by the turn of events. While the Placer County Sheriff's Office works tirelessly to connect the dots, the Clifford family has yet to make any statements regarding the accusations against their kin, with multiple attempts to reach them remaining unanswered, including efforts to contact Doug Clifford directly.
